GAY PEOPLE'S CHRONICLE

19

The Working Theatre's world premiere of Harry Kondoleon's last play, Saved or Destroyed, continues through June 19. This comedy, directed by Working Theatre artistic director Walter E. Grodzik, follows a group of six dissatisfied actors rehearsing a trashy melodrama about two cousins who fall in love during a dysfunctional family vacation. When the actors stop rehearsing, their own lives are revealed to be just as crazy as the characters they've been portraying. Kondoleon then allows the play within a play to merge with the actors' lives. As a result, all are taken on a fantastic dream-like journey through a contemporary landscape of creation, destruction and hope. Kondoleon transforms theatrical reality into a funny, sad, and sometimes frightening world where some are saved and others destroyed.

Saved or Destroyed is being staged at Spaces Gallery, 2200 Superior Viaduct (just north of the intersection of Detroit Ave. and West 25th St, alongside the Veterans Memorial Bridge). Performances are Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 8 pm; Sunday at 3 pm. Tickets are $10, $7.50 students/seniors. (Thursday, June 16 is a benefit performance and reception for the Working Theatre, tickets are $20.) Seating is very limited so reservations are suggested, 6969600.
